64An Ethel Merman Tribute - by me (ProCW)
To be sung to the tune of "There's No Business Like Show Business" (the chorus).
There's no Ethel like yo' Ethel, like no Ethel, I know.
Ev'rything about her is appealing. Ev'rything my traffic will allow.
Nowhere can you find my sappy feelings, unless you're stealing my content. Ow!
There's no Merman like yo' Merman, like no Merman, I know.
Even though there's lots of other content - old!
They'll soon be stranded, 'cause I am bold.
Still I cannot change it for my track is told, I'll show 'bout her below!
Her star still shines bright!
I Got Rhythm!
I got Music!
I got my pen!
Who could ask for anything more?

Alright, alright. Those aren't quite the lyrics, but I write plays... so, what better way to throw a little writing reference in there?
I Got Rhythm is a Hit Song from the Broadway musical, Girl Crazy. It has been, without a doubt, one of the most notable and one of the best of the many songs that were performed on stage by Ethel Merman.
In fact the song, didn't come close to stopping with Merman's success! I Got Rhythm has had MANY great performances by MANY great performers!
Some of them are: Ernestine Anderson, Fred Astaire, Melinda Dolittle, Ella Fitzgerald, Gene Kelly, and Barbra Streisand.

This is Ethel! She was such a great performer!
Anything Goes
Another of the fantastic Broadway Shows that had the grace of Ethel Merman's presence was Anything Goes!
The musical, written by Cole Porter, has received acclaim after acclaim after (you guessed it) acclaim!
It was originally written for stage, but has also been adapted for screen and television too!
There's No Business Like Show Business - Performed by Ethel Merman
There's No Business Like Show Business
Let me start this section by saying, I'm sorry for the parody-esque lyrics above. :) I didn't do the song justice and I know that! :)
But Ethel Merman did!!!
Anyway, There's No Business Like Show Business (the Reprise) is another of the GREAT songs performed by Ethel Merman.
Starring as Annie Oakley in the original Broadway Show, Annie Get Your Gun, she and the show did extrememly well; both in New York and London (1946 & 1947).
It was even revived again in 1966 (20 years later) with Ethel Merman starring as Annie (again)!
She also sang it on The Judy Garland Show. See Ethel Merman perform There's No Business Like Show Business with Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand in the video to the right.

I was not much of a Ethel Merman fan personally, but I know she performed some great songs. My fourth grade teacher loved her and used to have us sing There's No Business Like Show Business for our choir performances.
I liked the song, it was good. I do not dislike Ethel or anything, I think I just do not like musicals as much as you do. II know theater people loves these though :).
What is your favourite musical? I love West Side Story and Singing in the Rain.
Now I have always loved Fidler on the Roof. The story line really got me wrapped up into that one :).
Great hub, CW! Loved your tribute at the top, very catchy, Ethel would love it! I was singing it in my head as I was reading the words.
Man, she had a clear and powerful voice! I wouldn't want her yelling at me. :)
I used to watch Annie Oakley when I was a little girl, but I don't think I knew that Ether Merman played Annie on stage. Huh. A talented woman!
Thumbs up!
Thanks. My head voice is a million times better than my vocal voice! :)
Ethel Merman really belted out a song as demonstated by your great videos, ProCW. She made two movies with Bing Crosby, "We're Not Dressing" in 1934 and "Anything Goes" in 1936. Nice hub.
