Free Travel Games, Activities and Ideas for Kids and Their Parents
78You're on the road, bored, with nothing to do?
Looking for some travel games to play while you're in the car?
Here are a few travel games you could play with your fellow passengers, your children, etc...
Or, if you have a bit of schizophrenia, you could play them with yourself .
Oh, and if you know of other travel games or songs, feel free to post them in the comment section below.
Please have a safe trip. I don't recommend for you to play any of these games while driving. However, you'll have to be your own judge.
Have fun on your travels!
99 Bottles of (insert your favorite beverage here) on the Wall
This is a popular song, or chant, that's possibly been done on every road, in every county, in every region, state, country, continent 'round the world (and was possibly (or will be sometime in the future) done on a trip on space.) And yes, it can be a trip in itself.
Here's how it the song goes:
99 bottles of (beer, milk, or your other favorite drink... mine is Dr. Pepper) on the wall, 99 bottles of Dr. Pepper. Take one down. Pass it around. 98 bottles of Dr. Pepper on the wall. (See how your drink count went down by one after you removed a bottle and passed it around? Continue on...)
98 bottles of Dr. Pepper on the wall. 98 bottles of Dr. Pepper. Take one down. Pass it around. 97 bottles of Dr. Pepper on the wall.
Continue the sequence all the way to:
0 bottles of Dr. Pepper on the wall. 0 bottles of Dr. Pepper. Can't take them down. Can't pass them around. Let's stop at the next exit and get some more Dr. Pepper from a gas station!
The License Plate Game
- This version might be a little different than the standard "License Plate Game". Keep your eyes open for license plates from every state (or county) that you see. Take out a pen and paper. Keep score. Only 1 point given per state (or county) in this game. :) Simple game, huh?
I Spy
- The first "spy" spies something (insert color here.) The other players guess what it is that the spy is spying. Whichever player guesses correctly takes the next turn as the "spy". Fun, huh? :) Need an example? Okie dokie!
Spy 1: I spy something blue.
Player 1: The sky.
Spy 1: Yup! Your turn.
Got it? :)
FYI: The spy doesn't have to spy a color. It's more fun with a more vivid, active imagination! WAY more fun!

The Alphabet Game
There are many adaptations to The Alphabet Game, and you may adapt it to your needs as well.
Basically, the idea of the alphabet game is to make it all the way through the alphabet by naming something that begins with the next letter in the alphabet that is a (whatever you decide to use.) For example, you might want to play the alphabet game with animal types, names, places, or anything else you can think of!
